Reader's Choice: Colorado Springs Best Pumpkin Beer (Kind of)

Overview:

Over the weekend we announced that we would have a Reader's Appreciation Blind Pumpkin Judging and eleven of our facebook fans responded. Last night they all came over, we all got to meet each other and then we got down to the business of blind tasting four different Colorado Springs pumpkin beers. A winner was chosen. I purchased all the beer and I did not participate in the judging. See info below for the results and also to see how this is not a complete survey.

The Results:

1st Place - Bristol Venetucci Pumpkin Ale
2nd Place - Rock Bottom - Pumpkin Harvest Ale
3rd Place - Phantom Canyon - Halloween Pumpkin Ale
4th Place - Black Fox - Samhain

The Process:
Ultimately it would be difficult to say that Bristol's Venetucci is the winner of this contest because there are about four other beers that we were not able to try. Trinity has a pumpkin beer that sold out and will be released again in three weeks, we were not able to pick up BJ's, Rocky Mountain, or Colorado Mountain's pumpkin beers. So how would they compare? We may never know...that's why this post's title ends with '(kind of).'

Each person was given a sample tray with four beers. Each cup had a number (1-4) and each person took notes on the beers. We were not trying to decide which beer was the most pumpkiny, the most creative, or the most balanced, we were simply deciding which one we liked the most. When a person chose their favorite, that beer was awarded four points. Their next favorite was awarded three points, and so on down the line. The Bristol beer received an outstanding amount of points above the other beers. Only a couple people had tasted any of the beers before. I did not participate.

So, please welcome Venetucci Pumpkin Ale as the Reader's Choice: Colorado Springs Best Pumpkin Beer (Kind of)!
