Beer Thoughts: Rockyard Olde BroAle

Beer Info:
Olde BroAle is a part of Rockyard's Homebrewers Gone Wild program. They invite a Colorado-based homebrew club to make beer in a specific style, choose the one they feel is working best and then rebrew the beer on their commercial system, and the homebrew club gets to participate in the whole thing. For this one, our local brew club, the Brew Brothers of Pikes Peak, made an Old Ale from John Garbett's recipe.

Beer Thoughts:
This beer pours a nice copper color with an off white head. Aromas are of carmelized malt, and subtle dark fruits. The flavor is a sweet malt, not overwhelming or cloying in any way, but actually kind of carmelized and a bit nutty. Perhaps some dark fruit and currant flavor in there as well. The malt is balanced quite nicely with a non-lingering bitterness, but still this beer is decidedly malt forward. The beer finishes dry and reminds us of somewhere in between a darker and complexer brown ale and a winter warmer. It's never aggressive or lopsided in any direction, some warmth but no alcohol burn, and has a subtleness and balance to it that really grows on you. This truly ended up being a fun beer and easy beer to drink. We wish it came in a six pack, it would be an easy decision for the fridge.

High Recommendations, this was a very enjoyable beer.

How to Drink It:
Even though this beer is likely about 8% or so, this one would be easy to drink alone, especially on a cold night. We'd recommend sipping it in a nice pint glass, or even a snifter glass.
