Great Looking Beer Happenings For Your May Calendar

There's a few really cool looking beer events coming up this month and I just want to get them on your radar. Some of them require RSVP, reservations, etc so jumping on it now could be important. There's sure to plenty more coming our way, but these deserve some advance notice:

Home Grown Colorado Beer and Food Pickin Party

Front Range BBQ / 2330 West Colorado Avenue
May 15 / Starting at 5pm

  • Upslope - Beglian Pale Ale / Brown Ale served with the Red Bird Smoked Chicken with an Upslope spicy Brown Ale Sauce
  • Mamas Little Yella Pils / Deviant Dales with an Oskar Blues All Natural Burger

Start around 5pm.  We will offer the burgers / chicken and beer for probably $12 (could change), but FRBBQ does want it to be a "deal."  We will have some "pickers" show up and jam around 7ish.  Super laid back....

2 Part Dogfish Head Beer Dinner!

Blue Star / 1645 South Tejon
$55 for one dinner or $100 for both dinners
Call 719.632.1086 to RSVP

On May 16th and 17th we will have back to back Dogfish Head dinners. I (Brandon Hanson) sat down with what we will call the "Dogfish Head Tasting Panel" (Austin Sherwood of Coaltrain, Bryan Ludwig, Monica Gray & JB of CR Goodman & two of our chefs Andrew Sherrill & Will Merwin) and tasted through 15 different Dogfish Head beers with the intention of choosing for one dinner, but damn it all if we could't decide on beers for just one. So we decided to do two different dinners - the first will be a dinner of the many IPA's that Dogfish has to offer (along with a cocktail made using the 120 Minute - which we will have on tap), the second dinner is what we decided to call the "leftovers."

May 16th - Part 1

  • 120 Minute cocktail: Gin, Lillet, Maraschino & 120 Minute IPA
  • 60 Minute IPA + Aprihop
Pate w/ pistachios & wild salmon carpacio

  • 90 Minute IPA + Burton Baton

May 17th - Part 2 (The Leftovers)

  • Midas Touch + Ta Henket

  • Noble Rot + Faithful Ale

Elevation Beer Co Grand Opening

115 Pahlone Parkway, Poncha Springs, CO
12pm - 9pm

We are thrilled for Elevation and will be heading to their grand opening right after Battle of the Brewers. They had a strong presence at this year's Saison Festival. "After two years of planning, Elevation Beer Company is so excited to open our tasting room to the public and celebrate our grand opening," says General Manager Carlin Walsh. “Our tasting room will have eight different Elevation beers on tap and moving forward we will be offering tours every weekend to teach people more about making beer and the fantastic beers we make.”

The May 19th grand opening will also double as the launch party for Apis IV, a Dark Belgian Strong Ale,  and Elevation's first bottle release in their Black Diamond Series of seasonal specialty beers.

Elevation's May 19th grand opening will feature food from Breckenridge’s Stella’s Hungry Horse and Salida’s Smoke n’ Dawgs food vendors, as well as live music starting at 3:00pm from Denver’s Trout Steak Revival and Chaffee County local legend, Jonah Werner.  Entrance to the event is free for all ages, remember to bring the family early because they will not want to miss the root beer floats on sale from 12:00pm to 3:00pm.

Battle of the Brewers Part 2

At Brewer's Republic / 112 N. Nevada
4pm Sharp! / $10

This is our event, hosted at Brewer's Republic. In Part 1 we we brought you eight local brewers, we put the brewers into brackets, we chose sixteen random ingredients, and you were the judge for the beers. It was a blast. You selected your four favorite beers in a blind tasting and now the winners of round one are paired up against each other. They've been working endlessly to perfect this round's offering. On May 19th, join us for Round Two, where once again you'll be the judge. Be there at 4pm SHARP to participate. When the round is over we will announce the winners for the finals and randomly select the two ingredients. For $10 you will get a sample tray with four beers AND you will get a 10oz pour of a beer from a specialty keg.
