Giving the Dog a Beer
Whilst wandering around most every local beer festival in the Pikes Peak region you can find the booth for the Brew Dogs of Colorado. Since December of 2009 this organization has existed with the goal of capturing Colorado's craft brewery staff and their furry companions in a gorgeous photo book. As a special promotion, $5 from every sale of the book through Christmas will be going to the National Mill Dog Rescue. Aside from the charitable aspect, they use the book to document the relationships the brewers and brewery staff have with their animals in loving detail to accompany the photos. You may have noticed I have been vague about the 'animals' in this book, and with good reason. Surprise, surprise, this book has a section in the middle dedicated to some Brew Cats (complete with warning page)! This section features former Colorado Springs brewer John Schneider (of Bristol and Black Fox fame) and his clowder of cats in a 4 page spread. You'll also find other local brewery personalities and their dogs in this second edition of the book, including Bristol Brewing Company, Rocky Mountain Brewery, Pikes Peak Brewing Company and Trinity Brewing Company.
Chris Wright with Animal, Snuffy and a Bear Creek Porter |
Everyone loves the porter! |
I checked out the latest Brew Dogs book during their book promotion tour stop at Pikes Peak Brewing. You can find Pikes Peak's owner Chris Wright and his two Labradoodles: Animal and Snuffy on pages 12 and 13 of the book. I would be remiss if I did not mention that it was also the release of Pikes Peak's Bear Creek Porter that evening. The porter is different than in past years with a sweeter character, but retains it's rye notes and easy drinkability. It's made with a gallon of water from Bear Creek itself added to the boil; and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this beer goes to Trout Unlimited to help protect the Bear Creek's Greenback Cutthroat Trout population.
You can find authors Becky and Brian Bennett and the latest Brew Dogs book in Lone Tree at Lone Tree Brewing tonight (Dec. 12th) starting at 5:30, and in Berthoud, Colorado on Friday night at City Star Brewing (who are donating an extra $15 for every book sold at their brewery!). They are also running a special on their website to get both volumes 1 and 2 of the Brew Dogs of Colorado for a special combo price through December 22nd.Cheers!- - -Stay updated with our email updates and like us on Facebook.
