The Springs Brew Tour
Last month, we had the wonderful opportunity to join the Colorado Springs Food Tours on their Springs Brew Tour. The world of craft beer can sometimes be a bit frightening for the casual beer lover, and The Springs Brew Tour helps ease the initiation process. The Springs Brew Tour is an offshoot from Colorado Springs Food Tours, a local walking food tour service. While the beer tour is slightly different in that the tour is not a walking tour, the value and experience is there all the same.Founded by Samantha Bruner and her mother, Colorado Springs Food tours was a way for Samantha to use her marketing prowess and love of good food. They saw there was no outlet for people to explore many of our great restaurants, and expanded it to reach our blossoming brewing market. Samantha had asked us to come along on a few tours, and the May tour was finally the first one we were able to attend!We started our tour at Trinity Brewing, where the group assembled in the back and Tom from Trinity gave us some awesome samples while he educated the crowd on all things Trinity. We got to see how Trinity goes from grain to glass, as well as their ever-expanding barrel room, which was chocked to the gills with filled barrels. We munched on bacon cones while we sampled a bunch of the amazing beer they make.
From there we piled into the van and made the short trip up to Pikes Peak Brewing. Aly from Pikes Peak Brewing was gracious to take time out of her brewing schedule to walk us through their processes. She gave the group a brief brewing class, which was made even better with samples of their Elephant Rock IPA. We toured Pikes Peak's brewhouse and got to see the multitudes of barrels that Pikes Peak is aging!
After we had quaffed all the samples Aly supplied, we headed back down into town to finish the tour at Red Leg Brewing Company. Todd from Red Leg gave us the unabated tour of their brand new facilities complete with tasters of Red Leg beer. Included in our tour was Gypsy Pizzeria's pizza, which, if you've been to Red Leg, you know is a great pairing with beer. It was a great way to end a fabulous Sunday.
