Brew Love: Tired Hands Ourison, an oak fermented saison

Thanks to the Craft Brewers Conference earlier this month, we ended up hanging out in Philadelphia for almost an entire week.To put it simply, we were biding our time, waiting to have a chance to head out to Ardmore to visit Tired Hands. We were sure glad we did.If you find yourself in Philadelphia, definitely make the short drive out to Tired Hands. They brew an awesome (yet cloudy) IPA as well as an amazing saison.

"Equally inspired by the farmhouse brewers of France and Belgium and the pioneering, heavy handed, brewers of America." - Tired Hands

We visited their Fermentaria, where they do the majority of their brewing. Built into an old trolley repair building, the Fermentaria houses a full kitchen, Tired Hands' production facility and a tasting room. With up to twelve beers on tap at any one time, there's always something fun to drink. We sampled a bunch of their IPAs and saisons with the crew from Melvin Brewing, but settled on taking home some of their oak fermented saison Ourison. tiredhands-ourison-1Ourison uses Tired Hands' signature SaisonHands saison recipe which is brewed using four different grains including rye, oats and wheat. Then it's hopped with cascade hops and fermented in a large oak foeder for two months! The end result is a tart and crisp saison, simplistic in style, yet with flavors that are subtly complex. If you find yourself out in Philadelphia for any reason, definitely put Tired Hands on your bucket list. For us it was Brew Love.
