Backacre Beermakers Move to Denver from Vermont

A pioneering beer blendery in the United States, Backacre Beermakers was established in Vermont in 2010. Family-owned and -operated, Backacre works with other brewers to produce wort (unfermented beer) that is brought to the blendery to begin a long transformation into beer. During its time in Vermont, Backacre developed a strong following on the East Coast.

The blendery makes only a single beer, Backacre Sour Golden Ale, which offers a complex balance of tart, fruity, and earthy flavors. The production process combines several traditional methods that are unusual to find:

  • 100% barrel fermentation

  • 100% barrel aged for over a year

  • 100% bottle conditioning

“Although we will miss making beer in the Green Mountain State, we are thrilled to have brought our beermaking operation to our home town of Denver, Colorado,” said Erin Donovan, co-founder and blender. “We actually started production here over two years ago, and the long barrel and bottle aging are finally complete.”

Blend 15 of Backacre Sour Golden Ale is the first to be made in Denver, and will soon be available at Denver retailers.
