Customers of Pikes Peak Brewing Help Out With the Fresh Hop Beer

It's hop harvest time, and at least one local brewery is going to make a fresh hop beer - Pikes Peak Brewing. The best part is that PPB customers get to participate by adding the hops to the beer...how cool is that? Here's some information:

This Saturday, Sept 3rd at 12pm, friends of PPB can hang out on the beer patio and help pick the Centennial Hops off the freshly cut vines. You'll also be able to throw some of the hops in the boil kettle as the beer is being made in the brewery. The night before, High Hops farm in Windsor is going to cut down the vines and truck them straight over to Pikes Peak Brewing, so the hops will only be cut down for less than a full day before being added to the beer. The hops will be added to their America the Pale, which is their popular pale ale.

This really should prove to be a fantastic time, and a unique experience, as not many breweries around the state get to make fresh hop beers. The hop industry is a growing industry here in Colorado as more and more groups are realizing that they can grow in certain regions. It's really in an infancy stage at this point though, but there are hopes that in the near future, local hops will be a huge part of what makes up beer in Colorado. Currently many breweries get their hops from the Pacific Northwest and New Zealand, so to make a fresh hop beer, the hops would have to be flown in, which kinda defeats the purpose of having a beer that celebrates the region. But Pikes Peak Brewing has pulled it off and we will all look forward to this beer.
