A New Look at Another Pint

This month, the ownership of A Second Cup has transferred over to the hands of Tony and Stephanie Hockemeyer. The new name is now officially, and fittingly, Another Pint. Tony has worked there since 2008, including a short break, and Stephanie has been there for about a year. A few months ago they decided to get serious about buying the business off the founder, Jeremy Diggins, as they gained a new vision for it and have really fallen in love with the place.

For starters the new name, Another Pint, seems like a good decision. Previously customers haven't been sure if the business was called A Second Cup or Another Pint, but that won't be a problem anymore. The new name seems to suggest that it will be a beer-centered operation. They've already cut early morning hours from 6am to 8am and are keeping the bar open later in the night. Tony has seen craft beer sales really pick up lately. Just about a year ago, they added ten new taps to the lineup, they've seen the popularity of beer dinners increase, and last month's dinner had an unprecedented reservation list of 70+ people. The first beer dinner of the new ownership will be Stone Brewing, whose marketing campaign is in your face and seems quite fitting for a pub who just made their major focus craft beer (Stone says, 'Fizzy Yellow Beer is For Wussies.')

Really, beer hasn't even been able to stay on the shelf at Another Pint, I've been keeping track and this place is going through an average of about 7 kegs a week. With constantly new and exciting beers, a whopping 33 of them, Another Pint clearly has the best tap selection south of Denver. But it's going to get better. Tony says they'll be adding another 10 taplines, hopefully before the new year. That's 43 beers! That's awesome!

That's not all that's new though. Already the place feels a little cozier, a little more like a taphouse and less like a diner, with more bottles on shelves and more brewery signs hanging on the walls. The plan for the near future is to tear down the eastern wall and expand into the empty space next door, which they are already using for storage. The bar will expand and they'll add a small stage for live music acts. They are working on Meet the Brewer nights for Black Fox, Left Hand, Upslope, Funkwerks, Avery, and more. They want to eventually start a beer club, have a beer bus, make the patio warm for the winter, have a beers and bikes club, host a beer festival in their parking lot, and really focus in on the growing beer culture.

Visit Another Pint in December:
Tony says the public kick-off date for new ownership will be December 1st and he's starting that week or so off with a real bang. On Sunday nights he's beginning a poker night, on December 5th he's hosting a Stone Brewing beer dinner (get your tickets quickly!) and on December 10th he'll host a Meet the Brewer night with John Schneider of our local Black Fox Brewing.

Since it's his kick-off party, if you mention that you read this on Focus on the Beer, you'll get $1 off pints on the Dec 10th Meet the Brewer Black Fox event.

Another Pint is located at: 13860 Gleneagle Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80921
