River North and Red Leg Collaborate on West of Ardennes

A few weeks ago, Patrick of River North Brewery mentioned to us that they were in the middle of a collaboration with Red Leg Brewing, and we finally got word of what they've been up to! They've brewed up a Belgian-style hoppy brown at Red Leg and split up some of the wort...It'll be tapped November 21st at The Wild Goose here in Downtown Colorado Springs, and at the respective breweries starting the day after! I'm super excited for the rye whiskey barrel-aged version, but we'll have to make a trip up to Denver for that...Here's their press release:River North Brewery and Red Leg Brewing Company have teamed up to create a one-time collaboration beer, “West of Ardennes.”Both breweries have their own version of this one-time release, a Belgian-style hoppy brown ale. The main batch was brewed at Red Leg and will be available on draft at select bars around Colorado Springs, as well as the Red Leg taproom. River North also fermented a small amount in rye whiskey barrels at their Denver location; this version will only be available at the River North taproom. The breweries came together over a mutual respect for the other’s brewing style. River North is known for its yeast-forward Belgian ales like River North White, its flagship Belgian witbier that just won a gold medal at the All Colorado Beer Festival. Red Leg’s brews showcase deep malt character, like their Devil Dog Stout, which earned a bronze medal at this year’s World Beer Cup. West of Ardennes combines these elements, starting with notes of lemon, progressing to caramel and toffee and finishing with a mild hop bitterness. The first tapping of West of Ardennes will be at The Wild Goose Meeting House in downtown Colorado Springs on Friday, November 21st at 6pm. Both breweries will pour their taproom kegs starting Saturday, November 22nd.Matt and Jessica Hess opened the award-winning River North Brewery in February 2012. Brewing in the RiNo district of Denver, River North focuses on yeast-centric beers with Belgian-style flair. Red Leg Brewing Company is a Veteran owned production brewery in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Red Leg’s unique name is derived from the Civil War battlefields, where artillery soldiers wore a cardinal stripe on their pant leg to denote their location on the field of battle. Red Leg strives to serve those who served.
