503W's First Year Collaboration Beer

One year ago, the Dutch Mill was shuttered, the entire inside underwent a fabulous redesign and a new craft beer bar was born: 503W. Nina Lee, whose mother owned the Dutch Mill and subsequently what would become 503W, took over the business and transformed the place from what was almost a dive bar into a hip, happening craft bar and kitchen. Gone are the antiquated 6 or so taps where mostly Coors and Bud Light poured from, replaced by a shiny 10-tap system sporting mainly craft beer. After a revamp and revitalization of the menu, 503W has quickly become a place known not only for the libations and Bloody Mary Bar, but for their excellent food as well.Photo courtesy of 503WThis Friday, join 503W as they celebrate their one year anniversary...and do it with a special beer 503W brewed in collaboration with Phantom Canyon Brewing Company. They brewed wheat beer with fruit in it specially for the occasion! I was in there just a few days ago for lunch, and got the chance to talk to Nina about the beer and how it all came to be.Photo courtesy of 503WWhose idea was it to create the collaboration?Nina: To be honest, it kind of happened randomly. Mike, Alan and Troy, brewers from Phantom Canyon, came in for lunch one day and it all went from there. We thought Phantom Canyon would be a great fit to collaborate with due to their unique and tasty seasonal small batch brews. What was the inspiration behind the recipe? Nina: We wanted our 1st beer to compliment our food and embody elements of 503W- Approachable, unique, handcrafted and tasty. (Phantom Canyon and 503W brewed a Ginger Passionfruit Wheat Ale)1505190_852945778083293_1557072526928645341_nWill it be on tap for more than just Friday?Nina: Yes. But in limited supply. Photo courtesy of 503WAre there further collaborations in the works down the road?Nina: Not as of yet, we want to see how this batch does first, however you can count on us launching "Batch No. 2" sometime in the future. The party starts at 5pm on Friday, January 9th with food and drink specials! They'll have live music at 7pm, and of course, the collaboration with Phantom Canyon will be flowing freely from the taps!
