New Brewery Series: Gold Camp Brewing Company

The new year has just barely started, but our brewing community is already expanding! Gold Camp Brewing Company will open its doors to the public this afternoon. We had the awesome opportunity to stop in during their soft opening last night and see how it is!The vintage-inspired incandescent lamps hanging above the bar will give the place a nice glow. The brainchild of David and Sarah Shaver with the help of head brewer Ben Wilder, Gold Camp Brewing helps complete the brewing connection between Downtown and Ivywild. Being another local taproom that has been designed by Ryan Lloyd, you can already expect that the inside looks great! There's a great combination of recycled materials and light-industrial touches bringing a great balance to the space. Our only gripe about the place is the abundance of fluorescent lighting. Ben Wilder, their head brewer, assured us that they were working on some hand-made "covers" that will help cut down on the harshness, so we're not too worried. During the day, they'll most likely have some great natural sunlight in the place, but at night it felt a bit harsh. Enough about the aesthetics, we know you're itching to hear about the beer!6 beers on tap to start, plenty of great options!Gold Camp Brewing will launch today with 6 beers on tap: a wheat, black IPA, patersbier, gingerbread, wee heavy and a pale ale. Personally, the wee heavy (which comes in at a whopping 11%) was our favorite. Silky smooth with a touch of smoke at the end, this beer definitely hides its high-ABV well. Our second favorite was their Pale ale, mainly because of the heavy dose of Mosaic hops that Ben used in it. It's delightfully citrusy and super tasty. If you like spiced beers, look no further than their gingerbread beer. It's sweet and spicy like your grandmother's best gingerbread, and goes down super easy. All in all, we feel they have a solid lineup for opening day; you'll find whatever suits your fancy at Gold Camp. From left: Wheat, Black IPA, Patersbier, Gingerbread, Wee Heavy, PaleGold Camp Brewing's fermenters are already filled with the next batches of beery-goodness!Ben Wilder, Gold Camp Brewing's head brewer, gave tours to all of the soft opening folks.Gold Camp Brewing Grand Opening, 4pm1007 S Tejon StColorado Springs, CO 80903[flexiblemap address="1007 S.
