Pikes Peak Brewing's PPR No. 1508 - Imperial Stout Aged in Whiskey Barrels
This past Monday, Pikes Peak Brewing released the latest entry into their Penrose Private Reserve series, No. 1508. This imperial stout aged in whiskey barrels has spent 6 months in freshly dumped barrels from a craft distillery located in Denver, CO (our money is on Stranahan's).This is easily our favorite barrel aged stout from Pikes Peak to date. The whiskey really shines and the stout backbone is no slouch either. This beer will age really well in the coming years, likely to stand up to a few years of aging; assuming you can wait that long to partake! Drinking this closer to room temp is really the way to go. At 55-60 degrees the notes of oak and vanilla come to the forefront, and you get the pleasant heat from the stout and the whiskey as well. While the former will linger well into aging; the latter will fade over time, further increasing the drink-ability of this beer.We highly recommend this beer, and suggest you snag a couple bottles (one for now and one for later) or more at your first opportunity.Cheers to a great beer, Pikes Peak!
