Drinking Pliny (the younger) and Giving Back
This past weekend, we braved Downtown Denver's 60-degree weather to attend the Falling Rock Taphouse/Russian River Brewing Pliny the Younger release. We left with warm stomachs and
Falling Rock's doors opened at 11am like usual, so the line formed early. Specialty tickets were given out to guarantee visitors a taste of Younger. The first set of tickets amounted to about a keg’s worth of Younger pours, and another set of tickets were given at a first-come-first-serve basis after that. That said, everyone we talked to was able to get a taste, even with a packed house.
Every year, in Russian River’s hometown of Santa Rosa, California, for the past 11 years, owners Vinnie and Natalie Cilurzo donate 100% of sales from one specialty beer to help a local breast cancer center. (Last year, they donated over $100,000!)
Here in Denver, for the second year, Elite Brands is donating their proceeds from the kegs of Pliny the Younger to Sense of Security, a breast cancer center. In addition, Falling Rock is donating one dollar for every pint sold! Sense of Security, which was on-hand at the event, helps Colorado breast cancer patients and families financially survive during treatment. Not only did we drink a great beer, we also knew we were also helping our local community at the same time.
So how was Pliny the Younger? We knew there's the usual hype, but it truly is a wonderful beer. If you haven’t had a chance to try a pint, make sure you find a local tapping or wait until Falling Rock's tapping next year. (FYI: The fundraiser is happening again at Falling Rock at 1 PM this Sunday, the 28th. There's another Pliny the Younger tapping as well!)
It’s a wonderful beer that everyone enjoyed this year. We even met some new friends from the Washington D.C. area that took a two-week Colorado vacation JUST for the Falling Rock Younger tapping.
