Reviewed: Mexican Lager, pFriem Family Brewers
Beer reviews are often a hard type of content to create, as beer is a highly subjective art, though when something memorable crosses our path—it’s hard not to share our feelings.
pFriem’s Mexican Lager is one such beer.
Found in a somewhat ransacked beer aisle of the Hood River Safeway, this Summer Seasonal was on sale, most likely now that we’ve made it partway through September. pFriem’s tall slender 500ml iconic bottle routinely calls to us—a perfect size for sharing or enjoying solo. There were a few familiar styles available—IPA and Blonde among them—yet the green-labeled variety caught our eye in an instant.
Thanks to trips to Portland for CBC in years past, our experience with pFriem’s classic offerings has always ranked their beers in our upper echelon, and this Mexican lager is no different.
Straight from the fridge, the hiss-pop of the crown introduces aromas of orange blossom, hops and corn to the atmosphere as foamy froth meets glass. As volatile compounds subside, the maize and barley take over, finishing with a sharp crispness that shows its lagered age.
In a world where haze reigns supreme, pFriem’s pale-yellow clarity reminds us of a simpler time. Sip after sip, as small effervescent bubbles climb skyward, we imagine the beach, the mountains, the backyard—relaxation. pFriem has created a magnificent lager, and we’re eager for more.
This lager, to us, is a time-capsule of summer—frozen in time—just add salt and lime.
