Weldwerks Invitational 2019 Recap

Weldwerks has been an extremely hyped brewery that really deserves all the hype they get. They turned it up to 11 this past weekend with the 2nd annual Weldwerks Invitational held in Greeley. Two sessions loaded with more adjunct stouts than one person can drink along with barrel aged offerings galore - and a few hazy IPAs and sours tossed in for good measure - gave people hours of beyond excellent tasting to enjoy.

Of course, no Weldwerks weekend is complete without an accompanying can release so Weldwerks fired off 9 different cans of new liquid goodness as well as a few cellared bottles of the barrel aged awesome from their anniversary earlier in the year. People were lined up at 9AM on Friday the 21st for the brewery’s noon opening. Yes, the hype is still real.

Weldwerks Invitational To-Go Beers Were Amazing

The festival itself boasted an almost daunting lineup of beer to try. Massive barrel aged stouts and adjunct stouts that could knock even the most hardy of beer lovers flat. Check out the full pour list here. The beer that garnered the largest line immediately as the festival opened up was Side Project for their Derivation beers. Both Derivation (Blend 9) and (Blend 10) were available and Blend 9 seemed to be by far the favorite. The impressive thing was that with a handful of breweries having such large lines there were other excellent breweries with no line to speak of pouring great things that you could easily get to. Across both sessions we managed to try nearly everything that was available.

The Side Project line was long as soon as the festival began and did not stop until they ran out of beer.

Some of our favorites, aside from Deviation 9, were Burial Brewing’s Fall of the Damned Sour with Marionberries and Blackberries, Firestone Walker’s Maple Parabola Imperial Stout with Maple, New Image’s Mango Sunrise East Coast Transplant NEIPA, and Wiley Roots’ Vanilla Antonym Imperial Stout with Vanilla. Let’s be honest here, there were so many excellent beers we could keep this list going all day!

I think we’re all tired of the ‘it looks like a can’ tasters. These are nearly the same in volume but so much easier to grip and more pleasing to the eye.

Wiley Roots' Kyle Karbaugh

Kyle from Wiley Roots was on hand pouring their Local Beer as well as their new release: Swatches - Galaxy Blue. They also had a decadent brownie stout and their vanilla imperial stout available.

Josh Chats Up OMF

Our Mutual Friend brought some of their stellar sours to the fest. We enjoyed all of them.

New Image Brewing

New Image’s lineup was solid. They did not have the one beer we really wanted to try - the Blood and Sand - because it was not yet ready. Wanted to compare it to Paradox Brewing’s beer of the same name.

Side Project

They had the longest lines and were out of beer the earliest. Excellent beers that were worth the wait.
