YBNT: NewAir's "Beers of the World" Custom Designed 126-Can Beer Fridge
As we head deeper into Summer, we're taking a monthly look at some products that will make your beer enjoyment that much better.
Keep an eye out for more from our Your Beer Needs This series, where we'll run through some great options to enhance your experience.
If you're like us, you've always drooled over the wine fridges at the orange or blue big-box hardware stores, only to find out the lowest temperature you could get your beer to would be 44°. That's great for cellaring, but not great for keeping beer cold.
If you've held out until now, we have found the solution! NewAir has released a 126-can (12oz) beer fridge, emblazoned with beer styles from all around the world. When NewAir contacted us and wanted us to check one out for ourselves, we jumped at the opportunity! Soon after, a box arrived at the door and we got started stocking it with delicious beer.
Now, for me personally, with a new roommate (read: baby) in the house, our kitchen fridge has become jam-packed with pre-made meals and other baby-centric items, so there's no remaining space for that "easy-to-reach" beer.
To combat this, I've been resorting to some fairly ridiculous hiding spots to store beer: The NewAir"Beers of the World" Custom Designed 126-Can Beer Fridge couldn't have arrived right at a better time. One of my favorite features of this fridge (and why I can see us using it for years to come) is the "drawer" section at the bottom of the fridge. Because of the space that is needed for the compressor, there is usually a "shelf" in the back of these miniature fridges, and the NewAir fridge capitalizes on that design with a front "guard" that creates a bin or drawer in the bottom!
Since there's multiple different options for setting up the upper shelving, I love using this bottom area for Crowlers, bottles and other odd-sized beers that wouldn't normally fit above I have it primarily set up for cans. I know, it's marketed as a "126 Can" fridge, but with the flexibility that NewAir provides, it can be so much more. I played around with several configurations, and I've settled on a taller shelf at the top for 16-oz cans, two shelves for horizontal can storage, and then space at the bottom for the random-sized items. If you're a fan of hazy IPAs like I am, the horizontal shelf is great at keeping all those proteins in suspension too!
I’ve definitely put this thing through its paces, and one thing to note, if you pack it too full of beer (like I did) it can ice up a little in the back of the fridge compartment. Just make sure to keep some airflow going around your nicely chilled beers and you’ll be fine. Everything works as well as it did right out of the box, so this thing is in it for the long haul!
So why does Your Beer Need This? Sometimes, when you pack a fridge so tight with food and then slide in beers wherever they fit, you can actually freeze some of your items...and you don't want to freeze your beer! Plus with the LED light and slick outside decoration, this fridge not only works great but looks fantastic!
