Wiley Roots To Release Vanilla Anonym September 6

Press Release

Good things take patience. Great things take time.

After 18 months in the making, we are proud to announce the release of Vanilla Anonym, our Imperial Stout aged in Breckenridge Distillery Bourbon barrels with whole bean Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla.

Back in January, we moved all of our non-sour barrels into our new brewing facility. This allowed us to focus on packaging beers that were ready, and to start growing our inventory of non-sour barrel aged beers. After tasting through barrels and blending samples, there were three Breckenridge Distillery barrels that really stood out. After pulling nails and creating a sample blend, this amazing vanilla and oak forward stout emerged. While each barrel in the blend contributed unique individual characteristics, together they melded into a near-perfect beer; but something was missing.

While we could have released this blend without any additional adjuncts, there was an amazing marshmallow and fudge brownie character on the finish that was really special. After debating among our team if any flavors should be added to the beer, we decided that the natural barrel character and aging properties of this blend were too perfect to over complicate with multiple pastry adjuncts. We thought we could instead highlight these notes with a singular adjunct addition: vanilla. Once that decision was made, there was only one kind of vanilla to use: Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla

Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla is the most expensive, rarest, and highest quality vanilla you can buy. Five pounds of whole bean Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla costs as much as a real estate mortgage payment -- no joke. The beans are hand-selected for their freshness and rich fragrance, which are grown and cured on the Bourbon Island of Madagascar. The velvety and mellow flavor is full of rich sweetness and long-lasting dark-creamy notes. By adding Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla to this blend, we hoped that the complementary notes would really showcase the fudge brownie batter notes we picked up in the tasting.

After aging on the vanilla beans for a few weeks, we kegged off two 5 gallon kegs to pour at the WeldWerks Invitational as a sneak peak. While the beer met our expectations to present at the festival, we decided to allow it to age on the beans a bit longer before packaging. Last month we canned Vanilla Anonym in 12oz cans and have allowed the cans to condition in our cellar until they were perfect. That time has come.

Vanilla Anonym is the best stout we have ever released.

Vanilla Anonym was aged for 18 months in three Breckenridge Distillery Bourbon barrels and then conditioned on whole bean Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla beans. It is incredibly decadent with notes of rich marshmallows, chocolate fudge, and dark chocolate soaked in Bourbon. Vanilla Anonym started as a thick stout base that has only gotten thicker with aging without crossing the line into overly sweet or heavy territory. The barrel and Bourbon notes are not hidden, but showcased in such a way that the additional vanilla acts as an amplifier, rather than overpowering over the base.

Vanilla Anonym will be available for voucher reservation online, as well as available to-go at our taproom on release day, with a small allocation available on tap.

Starting Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 10am, 70% of the publicly available volume will be available for purchase online, first come first served, until vouchers are sold out. Vanilla Anonym will only be sold as 12oz four-pack vouchers online. Each four-pack voucher is $60, limit one four-pack voucher per person with only 168 four-packs total available.

Then on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 12pm, the other 30% of cans will be available for purchase on site. Taproom allocation will be available on draft and as single 12oz cans for $15 per can or $60 per four-pack with a limit of one four-pack per customer. Proxies are not allowed for this release because it is so limited. All sales are final. Please do not purchase online vouchers unless you can redeem them at the brewery. All vouchers must be redeemed by October 6, 2019 by 8pm, no exceptions. While there is no perfect system for releasing beer, we believe this is the fairest way to make sure as many people as possible are able to get cans.

No expense was spared, no corners were cut.
