Brews with a View: Telluride Blues and Brews

This past week, I made a small brew-tour down to the southwest corner of Colorado and finished the trip with the Telluride Blues and Brews festival. If you're not familiar with Blues and Brews, this festival pairs 3 days of amazing music with a three hour beer bonanza that rivals almost any beer fest we've been to. It's also tough to compete with the scenery when you're visiting Telluride, with 360° mountain views and aspen groves just waiting to turn orange and gold. Headliners this year were George Clinton, the Violent Femmes and Peter Frampton, but I was there for one thing: the beer. As a festival that began its life as a Brewer's festival, its refreshing to see adding a full blown music element hasn't changed the focus too much.The tasting runs from noon until 3pm on the middle day of the festival. It was easily the best attended day, with thousands of people lining up for unlimited tastes of craft beer. This year, the Brews part of Blues and Brews consisted of 56 different breweries from all over Colorado and the country. Even with over 150 different beers, I was hard pressed to find one I didn't enjoy. The weather was gorgeous, and while that may have made some of the lines a bit longer than in years past (last year it rained) everyone was having a enjoyable time.
